Senior Manager Opportunity - Technology Venture Investments

The technology venture investment team is the lead Venture investor in Wales, sector agnostic, we invest across a range of sectors from life sciences to AI. Fully backed with funding from the Welsh Government we invest between £10-15m per annum. We build strong relationships with co-investors and actively add value to the businesses we back.

We are seeking an experienced investment professional to provide leadership and strategic support within our Technology Venture Investments team. In this role, you will lead and guide a team of Investment Executives, and take ownership of successfully delivering technology venture investments in Wales.  

You will play a key part in ensuring effective and impactful Venture investing in Wales. Overseeing deal sourcing, diligence and investment recommendations. Also, portfolio oversight, managing risk, supporting follow‑on investment, and leading on all valuation and reporting activity. This role also carries delegated investment authority and requires active participation in senior management forums.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a team of Investment Executives, providing coaching, guidance, and support on complex deals.
  • Oversee the monitoring, reporting and risk assessment of the Technology Venture Investments portfolio.
  • Appraise and recommend investments to Investment Committee and support follow‑on decisions for portfolio companies.
  • Develop relationship with co-investors and wider industry contacts.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of venture investing and the technology landscape, maintaining best practice and an environment of continuous improvement.
  • Input into the investment strategy for the Technology Venture Investment team, with a focus on delivering impact and returns.
  • Manage portfolio valuations and ensure accurate financial reporting in line with IFRS and fund guidelines.
  • Attend boards as an observer, support governance, and help strengthen executive teams within investee companies.
  • Represent the team at meetings, events, and presentations, helping promote our products and activities.
  • Contribute to the development of new financial products and systems to support fund operations.

About You:

  • Proven experience in venture capital, with a strong investment track record.
  • Passionate about place based investment, driven by a desire to make a positive impact on regional opportunity
  • Strong understanding of equity and debt investment, particularly in early or later‑stage environments.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Commercial mindset with strong negotiation and decision‑making abilities.
  • Experience of managing a team and prepared to spend time in Cardiff each week where the majority of the team are based
  • Strong financial analysis skills and confidence working with business plans and investment cases.
  • Proficient IT skills
  • Full driving licence.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of public‑sector involvement in SME finance, impact investing in the venture space or regional venture investing.
  • Understanding of the Welsh economy, Development Bank of Wales and its activities.
  • Welsh language skills.
