Financial Controller

This is a Permanent, Full Time vacancy that will close in {x} days at {xx:xx} BST.

We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller, ideally with financial services experience, to lead the Group’s accounting function within our Finance Department. Reporting to the Finance Director, you will manage the Group’s accounting function, facilitating efficient and effective financial support for the management team, budget holders, and project managers. This position will also represent the Finance function in business change programs, including the introduction of new systems, funds, or products. The DBW Group has over 40 auditable entities.

You will have line management responsibility for up to 5 team members and oversee the wider Finance Reporting team of up to 15 colleagues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain all financial systems and control procedures, identifying and implementing improvements to support business growth.
  • Ensure accurate preparation of monthly management accounts in line with agreed formats and timetables.
  • Monitor changes in legislation and regulations, implementing necessary adjustments (e.g., IFRS, FRS 102).
  • Prepare statutory accounts in accordance with accounting standards and best practice.
  • Manage the external audit process and ensure timely approval of statutory group financial statements and subsidiary accounts.
  • Take responsibility for Key Audit Matters, including Expected Credit Losses for our debt portfolio and fair value assessments for our equity and shared equity loan portfolios.
  • Prepare accurate and timely budget forecasts and reporting for Welsh Government.
  • Collaborate with strategy and investment teams to address accounting and budgetary challenges for new funds and products.
  • Oversee tax compliance (Corporation Tax, VAT, PSA returns) and liaise with external experts as needed.
  • Manage payroll function and ensure compliance with regulatory changes.
  • Provide guidance to management on financial systems and procedures.
  • Attend and present at Audit & Risk Committee meetings.
  • Coordinate banking relationships and oversee treasury activities.
  • Act as a bank signatory and ensure timely reconciliation of key control accounts.
  • Prepare ad hoc reports and support new fund set-up.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, including IFRS, FRS 101, and FRS 102.
  • Experience managing a busy finance department in a high-growth environment.
  • Proven ability to prepare accounts for complex group structures.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • IT literate, proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience in staff training and development.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
